REPURSPOSING AN OLD BOOK

Repurposing an old book or simply buying a book to convert into this decoration is very easy. You can find a lot of different sized books in dollar stores that you can use for the idea that I am sharing today. Just use your imagination and style. In today’s sample I used only Mementos Inks.

REPURSPOSING AN OLD BOOK

  1. Remove the cover of your book and start by folding the pages in half all by same side, left or right. Cut one or two pages from this book to create your decorations. In my sample I only used one. REPURSPOSING AN OLD BOOK
  2. Tie a piece of wide ribbon around of the folded book and create a belt around the cylinder. You can rearrange the pages to have a better form. To paste the ribbon, it is better to use a fabric adhesive because you need a permanent adhesion for this ribbon. REPURSPOSING AN OLD BOOK
  3. Take the page of the book that you removed in step one and cut the white borders. Cut strips of 1/4” with your scissors. Cut a piece of the same ribbon that you used to create the belt, and cut it again in half. You can add all the embellishments that you want using the same line of colors. REPURSPOSING AN OLD BOOK
  4. Take the strips of papers and distress with your hands. After this, ink with Memento Tangelo Ink. REPURSPOSING AN OLD BOOK
  5. Assemble all the pieces from the step 3 and 4 and secure them with a staple. Paste over the belt using the fabric adhesive or any hard adhesive. REPURSPOSING AN OLD BOOK
  6. At this time, you need to create the special decorations. I decided to use butterflies and, to follow the monochromatic theme, I am using two-step stamps and four colors of Memento Ink: Desert Sand, Peanut Brittle, Tangelo and Morocco. REPURSPOSING AN OLD BOOK
  7. First, stamp the solid image with the lightest color, then stamp the detailed image with the darkest color. Cut with scissors, punch or framelits. I cut this set of stamps with scissors. REPURSPOSING AN OLD BOOK
  8. To finalize the decoration, I pasted an even bigger butterfly behind the other big butterfly that I cut with a die cut to enhance the colors and the small butterflies around the cylinder. For this purpose I used glue dots.
